Pool is OPEN! M’walimu (“Teacher” in Swahili) is a remote and secluded house in the hill country with multiple expansive libraries. Located at High Hope Ranch, this space is ideal for those seeking retreat from busy city life, to host large family gatherings, or to unwind and reconnect with nature. M’walimu consists of two dwellings connected by a covered walkway, each with two bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms, includes a private deck and pool.

Good to know

Mwalimu consists of two separate houses connected by an outdoor breezeway. In between them sits a pool and extensive outdoor deck with propane grill, seating, and hill country views. The main house has a full-sized, well-equipped kitchen and a dining table for 10. The deck offers plenty of outdoor seating and a propane grill for guests to use. The living room is filled with art, books, roku TV, and a wood-burning stove. Bedroom 1: The primary suite has its own sunny library, private desk area, king-sized bed, and a large bathroom with a walk-in shower and meditation bay. Bedroom 2: The second bedroom is located upstairs, with 2 double beds, a private work nook, and a full bathroom. Laundry room with a washer and dryer downstairs. The second house, known as the "Sanctuary", has 2 bedrooms, each with a queen bed, spacious closet, and private bath with a walk-in shower. The bedrooms are separated by sliding Japanese-style wood and opaque glass sliding doors. Please note they provide visual privacy but are not entirely soundproof. The all-glass, west-facing wall of the sanctuary offers a sweeping view of the pool and valley beyond. The gathering area in the Sanctuary has a small kitchenette-two mini-fridges, sink, microwave, tea kettle, small blender, a toaster oven, a coffee cart with a drip coffee maker, and a comfortable living room. The upstairs loft is yet another library/reading area and can be used for extra sleeping space (single pallets/pads provided). There is also space for queen airbeds (if requested) downstairs. We have had guests host up to 75 people in the living area for dinners and other special gatherings-please inquire for special events! The pool can be accessed from both Mwalimu and the Sanctuary. Ranch staff make unobtrusive visits for daily maintenance during swimming season, the pool is covered during the winter. The rates are for 8 people, extra overnight guests are $50 per person, per night plus tax. Please let us know how many extra guests you would like to join you so we can accommodate sleeping arrangements! Mwalimu is just one of four guest house rentals available at High Hope Ranch. Other Details to Note

Livestock (including cattle, chickens, pigs, goats, ranch dogs Rosie and Popeye, and the guard donkey, Zoey) roam the ranch. We ask kindly that you not approach the cattle or chickens, but the rest are all very keen on head scratches and pets! The dogs may jump or bark at first but are friendly and will return to their duties after brief hello. Chances are you'll see deer, armadillos, and lots of wild birds. We sometimes see other native wildlife like such as quail, turkey, coyote, feral hogs, foxes, and bobcats. There have been some rare sightings of mountain lions in the past but as long as you are aware and prepared it’s nothing to worry about. Lastly, we are in the Texas hill country where rattle snakes and copperheads live. They are easy to avoid as long as you are aware. If spotted up by a house, please contact the host so that we can safely remove them for you!

House rules

We have a $50 per extra guest overnight (starting with the 9th guest) and a $10 day use fee for guests not spending the night. Please let us know if you would like to bring more than 8 people. If you would like to schedule an event or gathering, we are happy to work with you! We provide outdoor ashtrays for smokers but ask that you only smoke outside the houses or in your vehicles, not in the houses or on the trails. Please check Somervell County for burn ban status before using our fire pit. Because we are so close to Fossil Rim and so far from help, we ask that you do NOT use the pit when the winds are over 12-miles an hour. All guests will be required to sign our Risk Release Form.

Neighborhood

High Hope Ranch is located south west of the small town Glen Rose. We are in the country with miles in-between us and our neighbors, one of which happens to be Fossil Rim Safari Park. It's secluded enough here to be able to see the Milky Way at night but close enough to town that you can grab the essentials in 15 or so minutes. There are a few residents who live and work on the ranch you may bump into but if you are seeking total privacy you can easily achieve that as well.

Guest Access

Guests have both houses and swimming pool to themselves. The house sits at the end of private driveway on our 900-acre ranch. Guests have access to our on site Farm Store where they can stock up on essentials like ranch raised meat, drinks, canned food items like jellies, jams, pickles, salsa, and other snacks. All food is grown or made on site with organic practices and values. Store Hours are Friday 3:30pm-5:00pm and Sunday 10:00am- 3:00pm. Every purchase goes towards supporting young farmers and land conservation. Guests have access to all 900 acres with 20+ miles of hiking trails and landmarks like the Stone Circle, Star Pad, Goat Cave, Sunset Cliff, and are of course welcome to arrange a tour to visit the working Farm on property. Guests are welcome to rent our studio or other houses for their private use such as weddings, retreats, and other special events.

We could not rave more about this spot!! It made for a fabulous 4th of July weekend. When we walked in we were immediately impressed by how clean it was and that it had all of the “little” things one could need on a trip (cups, mugs, wine screws, etc). The amount of space was incredible and we spent equal amounts of time hanging out in both bungalows. We loved looking at the different decorations and books throughout the buildings, and the star gazing area and flower farm were wonderful perks. Not to mention the pool, which was perfect! Even though the weather was awful all weekend, we had an 11/10 weekend. Thank you Brandi!!

We had the best time at High Hope Ranch. Brandi is fantastic (and her staff). Brandi's response time to my questions were very quick and informative. Our family stayed at the M'walimu it is a beautiful home with all the necessities you need. Just bring your toothbrush, hiking clothes and swimsuit and you are set. :) The main house is large and very inviting the kitchen is large. We had several people in the kitchen without bumping into one another. The main bathroom is HUGE I felt like royalty. The sanctuary is breathtaking! The saltillo tile is gorgeous. You walk in and you are in awe of the beautiful large windows welcoming you to picturesque sunset. We went for a 6 mile hike and saw so many awe-inspiring views of God's creation. We visited the goats cave, stone circle and so many more. At night just a few steps from the house we went to the star pad. It was so beautiful words can not describe it's beauty. I must not forget the animals so cute and friendly. High Hope a must

Amazing set of dual villas adjacent to the beautiful Fossil Rim safari park! There are two bedrooms in each villa which make it the perfect set up for a large family gathering. We loved the pool and natural surroundings. Brandi was incredibly responsive and even helped arrange for our young kids to feed the animals on the ranch. I would highly recommend!!!

We wanted a place close to Dino Hills Disc Golf Park and could comfortably accommodate 6 players. This place was perfect! Everyone loved the houses and how close we were to the park.

We had a Great Stay! This is a great location to visit Fossil Rim, Dinosaur Valley, and Glen Rose. It was very quiet and private. The house is very spacious and extremely clean and comfortable. The kids loved exploring around the property and feeding the animals. The grounds were maintained and the trails were great! Brandi was very responsive and helpful and gave us some great recommendations. Thanks!!

This property has so much versatility. It offers a a serene atmosphere, all of the amenities you might need and lots of space! We booked for a girls weekend and it was just what the doctor ordered! We loved staying at high hope ranch!

We hosted "Cousins" week our 6 grandchildren from 3 families at Brandi's place. It worked out great. We had lots of room and had everything we needed. We did a lot of food preparation and it was great for that and for a large group to eat together. The pool was a great place during the day as it was of course hot in Texas in the summer. Everything was as presented and it was I expected. Emmy the keeper of the property who greeted us was super nice and the hosts were friendly and responsive. I would do it again.

The place was so beautiful. It was so peaceful the house is beautiful. Will definitely try to go back soon there are so many trails to walk and enjoy the scenery.

Find us

Glen Rose has two airport shuttle services that will provide transportation to DFW and Love Field. We have had people take Uber/Lyft here, but there is no return service! Our remote location makes it easiest to get here in your own vehicle! We will provide a map pin to get you here as well as written directions. Our hiking trails are marked, and we have chosen favorite loops and flagged them for you (literally, with colored bandanas!), and we provide trail maps. Because we are wildlife driven, the trails are foot paths only.
